A Historic Win for Manny Pacquiao

Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao once again made Filipinos around the world proud of their color!

With his win against Miguel Coto of Puerto Rico, Manny claimed his 7th weight category belt the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Welterweight Championship Belt, first boxer to claim such honor. Manny dominated the fight from the 1st round until the time that referee Kenny Bayless stopped the fight on the 55th second of the last round.

Although the betting stakes in Las Vegas favored Manny 3-1, most of the international boxing analysts doubt if Pacquiao will fair against Coto. Miguel Coto prepared well for the fight, he started his training in Florida 39 days ahead of the World’s Best Pound for Pound Boxer. While Manny was busy shooting his film ‘Wapak Man’ (his official entry to the 2009 Metro Manila Film Festival) and taping his shows in GMA, the champion (Coto) was busy hitting the punching bags in Tampa Bay, Florida.

Indeed, Manny Pacquiao has proven the world that he is worthy to be named the Best pound-for-pound boxer of all time.

While all the Filipinos were jubilant over the PacMan’s win, a sad story was unfolding at the University Medical Center in Las Vegas. Pinoy Boxer Z Gorres was rushed to the hospital after winning via unanimous decision against Columbian Melendez in a non-title fight in Las Vegas on the eve of the Pacquiao-Coto bout.

Gorres was in full control of the bout until he was knocked down by Melendez in the closing seconds of the 10th round, Gorres collapsed after being declared as the winner.

Apparently Gorres suffered subdural hematoma (blood clot in the brain) and doctors placed the boxer in an induced coma and performed the necessary operatio to remove the blood clot in his brain.

Let us all offer a prayer for Gorres.
