I’ve climbed several mountains and yet I never had a course in Basic Mountaineering. My entry into the world of mountaineering in the mid 90′s was influenced by my friends, I won’t say that we were unprepared, but looking back, it could have been beneficial to me (or us) if we had the training.
It’s never too late as they say, good thing SMB Mountaineers conducted a Basic Mountaineering Course last Saturday, February 4th, 2012 at the Makati Youth Center in Makati City.
The topics were:
- Mountaineering Gears & Packing it Light – Jim Lagazo
- Trail Management – Adrian Reyes
- Camp Management – Leo Yepez
It’s nice to be refreshed, specially being reminded of the mountaineer’s duty of preserving the environment. On a personal note, the problem I’m facing everything I pack my things is (I believe) now resolved.
Intermediate and Advance Mountaineering Course is also being planned for this year. Kudos to the Pioneers & Senior Members of SMB Mountaineers for conceiving (and implementing) this courses.
