Master “The Sniper”
For a “sniper” shot to succeed, you need a long zoom lens & a steady arm, even with the current technology of VR (Vibration Reduction) for Nikon lenses & IS (Image Stability) for Canon, a steady arm is a must. I currently have a 70-300mm f/4-5.6G AF Zoom-Nikkor as my long range lens, this is a cheap lens at around PhP 7,000.00, match with my steady arm, it can produce a good candid sniper shot. The problem with this lens is it’s tendency to produce softness on the image. It usually starts from 150-300mm. I’m still eyeing for this:

It’s a 70-200mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor, my dream long range zoom lens. It’s VR (Vibration Reduction) would compensate minor movement in my steady arm while shooting & fast at f2.8, a good sports & low-light situation lens. This is not a cheap lens, it ranges from 90 to 100 thousand pesos with Columbia warranty & from 80 – 95 thousand for gray units. Meanwhile, I have to be satisfied with what I have, it still performs as a want it to be. Let me show you some of the photos I’ve taken using this lens.

A photo taken inside the Main Ballroom of Bellevue Hotel, the lighting was very bad for a slow lens.

This one was inside the groom’s house, what I love about this lens is the bokeh, although a small amount of noise is visible on the left side but it’s ignorable.

From my recent Baguio trip, my distance from this man is at around 15 meters

This dog is located on the 2nd floor of the house accross the street.

Taken from the top of the pedestrian crossing during the height of Typhoon Dodong’s devastation.

Head shot of a model a car show.

Another stolen shot of a model.

With a long range lens you can capture stolen moments, this is one good examples, the models having a chit-chat.
All shots were taken at 300mm focal lenght with varrying shutter speed & aperture settings. I’m not an expert but I can say that the lens satisfies my need.
