The Journey Continues…

Typhoons and other calamities are not new to us Filipinos, we have been plagued by such in the past, but last weeks blow was something that hit us hard.

Typhoon Ondoy brought so much rain, for less than 12 hours, Ondoy poured the amount of rain equivalent to 30 days, this is according to PAGASA.

After Ondoy’s devastation of eastern Metro Manila and part of the Province of Rizal, it was Pepeng’s turn to wreck havoc the norther part of the country. Pangasinan was submerged in water after the 6 gates of San Roque dam were opened, thus flooding the Agno River and most of the municipalities in Pangasinan.

Benguet and neighboring provinces suffered landslides and the city of Baguio got flooded, no one imagined that this would happen to the city of Pines.

Pepeng claimed almost 300 lives and ruined about a billion pesos in properties & crops.

In times like this, Filipino heroism is being tested, Pinoy’s heeded the call for help of those in need. Donations and pledges poured into the office of the foundations that were helping the victims, the Red Cross and other institutions including the 2 major TV networks (Sagip Kapamilya and Kapuso Foundation) were the major beneficiaries of the donations.

I was particularly surprised by the action of the inmates from the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (yes they are the famous dancing inmates of Cebu) donated some amount to the victims of Ondoy and Pepeng.

But behind these inspiring stories, there are still some politicians that took advantage of this sorry situation to pursue their political ambitions. F*ck them for being so insensitive!

I just hope that our voting public would be intelligent enough not to vote for these rotten scumbags!

Despite these few undesireable citizens, I still believe that Pinoys are by nature are kind hearted and ready to help, I just hope that this will remain as true in the future.
