The “Beast” or the “Biatch”
In my line of work, I definitely need a fast lens, so what the heck is a fast lens?
A fast lens are those with large aperture settings, they normally call it as f-stops, i.e. 1.2, 1.4, 1.8, 2.8 etc. The smaller the value of the aperture, the larger & faster it is & the better it respond on a badly lit environment especially in a church where the ambient light is always bad & light source tends to confuse the built-in light meter of any camera.
But fast lenses are expensive! It will costs me an arm & a leg to purchase one, which makes me think of acquiring a third party lens. Although I don’t have the money yet to purchase this beautiful lenses, I need to study the subject very well. I compared a Nikkor & a Sigma lens of the same specs, 28-70mm f2.8, here’s what I found. What I’m interested of are (1) Lens Construction, (2) Size, (3) weight & (4) of course the price.
First, Nikkor AF-S 28-70mm f/2.8D ED-IF, commonly known as “The Beast”

Dimensions (diameter x length – in.): 3.5 x 4.9 in.
Weight (oz.): 31.3 oz.

Next, Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 EX DG, coined by most Nikon users as “The Biatch” (hahahaha!)

Lens Construction: 14 Elements in 12 Groups

Whew! I’ve seen both lenses, I’d still want to have the Nikkor but I can’t afford it. I’m contemplating on having a Sigma instead.

Sigma lenses seems to be of good quality naman. Buti na lang mura lang ang sigma dito sa Pinas. A friend of mine from Japan told me the prices of the Nikon lenses there since she’s a Nikon user. Grabe 30% less ata ang difference dito.
Good luck on you JPG Issue entry ..superb quality indeed!
hopping by!
