The Journey Continues…

The family of former president Cory Aquino is currently facing a difficult phase in their life, the health of the former leader has been reportedly deteriorating.

Last year, Tita Cory (as she was well known of) was diagnosed of colon cancer, from then on, the former president’s health had started deteriorating.

I would attribute my being politically sensitive to Tita Cory’s husband, the late Senator Benigno ‘Ninoy’ Aquino, I was barely 14 years old when he was assassinated at the tarmac of the (then) Manila International Airport.

It was one Sunday afternoon, I was enjoying my weekend watching TV when the program was interrupted by a breaking news, the TV set flashed an image of a man lying on a paved road, he was wearing a white suit and some black liquid (yeps it’s not a colored TV) scattered around the man’s head.

I wasn’t really listening to what the newscaster was saying, I am more puzzled on who this guy was, the next thing I knew, my mother went inside the house hysterical and shouting ‘ayan na magkakagulo na, pinatay nila si Ninoy!’ So, this is Ninoy, who is he? Why would they kill him? These are the things that kept on playing on my mind.

That incident opened up the Pandora’s box, for me in particular, I started discovering how rotten the politics during the Marcos regime was, (to think that stopping the broadcast of Voltes V was the worst thing Marcos has done to me) I would wait for the rallies and caravans, listening to every speeches and hoping to get some yellow ribbon which I can wear on my head.

Others may have different opinion about the former president, but the fact remains, she (and her husband) had brought hope to the Filipinos. Let us all pray for Tita Cory’s recovery.
