What’s in the bag?

Gaano ba kahirap maging isang wedding photographer? Naisip nyo na ba kung gaano kabigat ang mga equipments na dala-dala ko everytime I cover a wedidng? Well, let me give you an idea.

First let me show you my bag.

It’s a Tamrac® 5608 (aka Pro 8 model), I find it sufficient for my current gear set-up, it can hold 2 cameras with lenses attached, 2 flashes & 2 extra lenses. Let me describe the bag using the legends (represented by letters on the pic):

A. Main compartment - dito nakalagay ang camera, lenses & flash (attached with my D70 is the Nikkor 18-135mm while D80 holds the Sigma 28-70mm)
B. Upper Compartment - small compartment where I place the things that is not normally being used in a shoot, i.e. AA battery holder for the battery grip etc.
C. Front Compartment - andito naman ang lenspen, extra memory cards, ballpen, flashlight etc.
D. Side Compartments - AA batteries on one side & charger on the other side.

Now eto naman ang laman.
D70 with batteries & memory cards

First is the Nikon D70 camera with Sigma 28-70mm lens attached, rechargeable batteries & memory cards (Compact Flash & Secure Digital). I have 6 (24 pieces) sets of batteries, 4 CF cards & 3 SD cards totalling to 7.5GB of memory with a capacity of recording 1,700 (or more) images @ 6MP.

Secondly, the D80 with Nikkor 18-135mm lens & MBD80 battery grip attached, an SB800 Speedlight & a Nikkor 70-300mm zoom lens. Demn! I need another flash unit!

You might be wonderig how much each unit weighs, I digged on the manuals of each gear that I have & here’s what I found:

  1. Nikon D70 – 679g
  2. Nikkon D80 – 668g
  3. Nikkor AF-S18-135mm f3.5~5.6 – 385g
  4. Nikkor AF 70-300mm f3.5~5.6G – 467g
  5. Sigma AF 28-70 f2.8 DX ED – 510g

Then add up the weight of the MBD80 battery grip, extra battery D70 & D80, 24 pcs. AA Ni-CD & the flash, I would say that more or less the bag weighs around 3.5kgs.

On a normal wedding coverage, 1 camera hangs on each of my shoulder, the D70 on the left & the D80 on the right. That means I’m carrying around 2.5kgs of extra weight for about 6 hours of coverage. Believe me, it’s f*cking heavy! What makes it heavier is the shoes that I’m wearing, of course, I won’t wear sneakers during a formal shoot.

Tunog nagrereklamo ba ako? Hindi naman, I’m just sharing the experience. Don’t you worry, I am very happy in what I’m doing.

  3. ang bigat pala ng bitbit mo parati kuya..

    dapat rin lagi kang may extra batteries, extra memory cards para di kapusin kapag napasarap ang picture taking..

  5. Grabe! 24pcs ng battery?!! Yun pa lang din mabigat na. pero ayus lang, minsan sa bilis ng nangyayari sa mga weddings at events di mo na rin mapapansin. par ka lang nag wo-workout nyan ah. hehe
