You can call them honorables

I was busy editing the wedding pictures that I took last Friday when the local TV network (sorry no cable TV service here) announced that the partial proclamation of the 10 winning Senators is being held at the PICC. I stopped & glued my eyes on the television, I looked in my hands & counted how many of the Senators that I voted were included in the 10. My bating average is quite good, 3 out of 5 senators that I picked can now be called Honorables.

I won’t divulge the names/identity of the candidates that I voted, I’d rather spit my opinion on the Senate composition of the 14th Congress. Here’s my take:

  1. There will be 2 Cayetanos & probably 2 Pimentels since Koko has now a greater chance of winning against Zubiri after Chairman Abalos declared a failure of election in Maguindanao. Good thing that GoVic did not make it & Loi doesn’t want a second term, can you imagine how it would look like? Ooops! I forgot to mention Mike Defensor & her Tita (liling) Miriam.
  2. Status quo on the number of celebrities, my kababayan Jinggoy Estrada, Bong Revilla, Jr. & Lito Lapid (who failed to beat Jojo Binay in Makati) will continue with their last half of term. Correct me if I’m wrong, good thing that God did not permit, the possibility of having 7 showbiz personality in the Senate was I think the highest in Philippine history. We could have Mr. Lonely (Victor Wood), Maestro (Cesar Montano), Tuklaw (Richard Gomez), Tito Escalera (Tito Sotto), Leon Guerrero (Lito Lapid), Estrebel (Jinggoy Estrada) & Ben Delubyo (Bong Revilla) in the Senate Floor.
  3. With Trillanes’ current ranking, there can be 3 former military man Honasan, Biazon & (possible) Trillanes will have to serve the country as a Senator. Meanwhile, only one former police officer (Lacson) will be in the Senate since Lim was elected as Manila Mayor. Again, I failed to mention a former Defense Secretary/Minister (Enrile) is still serving the second half of his term as Philippine Senator.
  4. The richest man in the Senate will continue paving the roads of Cavite (yahoooo!) since most of his real estate projects are here.
  5. Five are re-electionist (Villar, Arroyo, Angara, Pangilinan & Lacson) & 2 will return to their seats in the Senate(Legarda & Honasan).
  6. Three were former Congressmen (Noynoy Aquino, Alan Cayetano & Chiz Escudero) will transfer from Batasan to PNB Building, a possibility of fourth if the last 4 COC’s will favor Migz Zubiri (konting himas pa).
  7. By the looks of it, the opposition will be the Majority, as of my last count 13 of the Senators (current & newly elected) came from the opposition, but who can tell what happens next, there’s no Party loyaty in Philippine Politics.

The Philippine Senate one half of the Philippine Legislature, this body will somewhat balance the process of promulgating laws, policies etc. Although only 24 distinguished Ladies & Gentlemen comprises the whole Senate (compared to the 250++ of the House), this body has more powerful than the House.

In the end, I want all of us to examine these people who will represent us in the next 6 years, have we voted wisely? As always, vigilance is still needed, that’s the hardest part of democracy, to make this people work for us.

  1. Im also proud of the candidates I voted, all of them are now senators and I’m hopeful that they will do their best. :) ‘gandang umaga din po, Master.

  2. Four on my part.

  3. I wanted the Kapatiran to win but I don’t think the electorate is ready for them yet.

Sadly Sonia Roco did not win either. I hope the trend continues, I don’t like Zubiri that much. When one can accept a leader like Gloria, then something is wrong. Joker made it even if his principles are questionable too. He’ll defend you as long as you’re not going up against the Pidals.

As for Angara, we all know what he is.
